A Note from the Board

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our website! Please consider becoming a member of the Mary Hawley Society. All it requires is a donation of $25 or more, plus an interest in our Town Hall and its heritage.

In 1929, Mary Elizabeth Hawley laid the cornerstone for the building named for her great-grandfather – William Edmond. As the years progressed, Edmond Town Hall became a center for civic and community life, often changing with current needs.

Today, with the construction of a new town office building, our Town Hall is again adapting. The Mary Hawley Society is committed to supporting this transition, and to the restoration of our historic building. The Society was founded in 2007, as an adjunct support for the building’s Board of Managers, which has fiduciary responsibility for the Town Hall. Our focus is to raise awareness and funds for projects that could not happen without private assistance.

The Mary Hawley Society’s first project was restoration of the building’s commercial kitchen. With fund-raising events, grants, and special donations from Newtown Rotary and the Newtown Women’s Club, we gathered approximately $150,000 and made it happen. Our next goal, nearly complete, is the complete refurbishment of the Alexandria Ballroom so that weddings, organizations and events can be held there – bringing in rental fees.

We want to preserve the building and make it self-sustaining. You can help by becoming a member. And if you have time, or services to offer, let us know of your interests. We look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Donald T. Studley, President; Jane Sharpe, vice President; Marg Studley, Treasurer, and Sandra Motyka, Secretary
